We work hard. We play hard. Two biggies’ are coming!

The Club Championships’ are getting close.
Work hard, play hard and have lots of fun.
Earlier in the week I though it might be a newsletter free week as there was little in the way of activities to report on.

I then realised that we had a couple of events on the horizon, events that give the opportunity for all club members, young and not so young, to take part in.

On August 26h, on the rec, Kate Sergent and Emma Davis are planning what should be a wonderful event –  ‘Relays on the Rec”. Teams of 4, with each team member running one lap of the parkrun course, with mystery prizes on offer.

If you haven’t entered already and plenty have, why not come along, bring food to share, bring a picnic, bring the family. All ages are welcome.

What’s not too like ?

And then……the big one…..the Club T&F Championships on 13th September at the Stratford School track

This event takes a huge amount of organisation and history proves that it is, always, an unforgettable experience for those who are there on the day.

I implore more seniors to give it a go. When suggesting to seniors’ who haven’t done T&F to give it a go, I often get the response  “I haven’t thrown, jumped, sprinted etc since school days”, but then, when they do give it a try, they thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Once again, there will be a 5000m race included and this will be a Shakespeare Race.

Full entry details are shown below

These two events are open to all of our 8 – 80+ aged membership.

Why not try both ?

Irrespective of age.

We are, after all, one club with both a junior section and a senior section.

Talking of events that take lots of organising but are vital to the club, good luck to those competing in Friday’s Summer Six and huge thanks to those  who have worked so hard to make it happen and also to those who will be helping out on the night.

The only actual activity to report on this week is Dave Wilson and Paula Williams’ trip north of the border to compete in the Scottish Masters Athletics Championships in Grangemouth, both returning with medals.

Good luck to to any of you who are competing this week.

Take care,

David

Lots of Smiles
Seniors’ more than welcome

The Club Championships is the single most important competitive event in the Track & Field calendar for SUAAC because it is open to everyone in the whole club.

A huge amount of effort goes into organising and running the Championships by our volunteers and our hope is that all our athletes will  enter and support the club irrespective of age

Whilst the event is competitive, in some cases this is the first opportunity for an athlete, both young and not so young, to enjoy the thrill of competition and to pit themselves against their peers.

Once again this year we are including a 5000m that will be a part of the Shakespeare series of races.

Added to the above is the fact that the Championships are a huge amount of fun for all ages as some of the photos shown attest to

See below for further details.
Did I mention lots of fun ?

The Scottish Masters Athletic Championships

Grangemouth – Scotland

Report – Dave Wilson

Myself, Paula and honorary Stratford member Janelle Quinn took part in the Scottish Masters in Grangemouth last weekend.

I surprised myself with 2  silver medals in the M55 100m and 200m.  I had a terrible start in the 100m but managed to pull back to finish 2nd in 13.42. I felt very strong in 200m again finishing 2nd in 27.11.

Paula who was already in Scotland supporting her husband Andrew who was playing bag pipes in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo couldn’t resist travelling down to compete in the W50 shot put, achieving a SB of 13.59m and securing the Gold medal.

Janelle came away with gold in W50 100m, silver in TJ, gold in LJ and silver in shot put.

Club Championship – Entry Details

The Club Championships is led by our volunteer trained officials, supported by the club coaches and parents and is run under UKA rules

Results will be shared with all competitors once they have been checked and verified.

The Championships will be held on our home track at Stratford upon Avon School.

The Championship is run on a Multi Event basis i.e.to be included in the Club Championship competition, athletes need to compete in 2 events i.e. 1 Track and 1 Field.

  • Senior competitors i.e. Under 20 plus can compete in as many events as they wish, however,

2 events must be 1 Track and 1 Field to be scored for the championship.

We are pleased to be running the 5000m which is a race that will be included in the Shakespeare Race Series.

  • Junior competitors – Under 12, 14, 16 & 18 can compete in a maximum of 4 events. Under 20athletes can compete in a maximum of 5 events. 2 events must be 1 Track and 1 Field to be scored for the championship.

  • Please note Under 14, 16 & 18 athletes can only compete in either the 800m or the1500m not both. U12s can’t compete in either.

  • Relays will be organised on the day and do not count towards the championship.

Points are allocated to each event. The athletes highest score for 1 Track and 1 Field in their respective age/gender group will be used for the championship scoring.

NB…If an athlete chooses to just compete in a run or throw that single event will be included in the results, however, everyone is encouraged to compete in 1 Track and 1 Field to give them the best scoring opportunity tin the championships.

To enter go to https://www.riderhq.com/events/p/97hxsq65/f/stratford-upon-avon-ac–2026-track–field-championships- and follow the instructions to complete the entry.

Take care when completing the form.

  • You will need to select the event that you are completing the form for ‘Someone Else (Child)’ NOT you the parent.

The system requires you to repeat the athlete’s details for each event that you are entering.

You need to keep a note of the events you have entered for each athlete.

You will receive a general email acknowledgement for each event but it will not detail the events you have entered.

The deadline is 5th September at the latest (no manual forms will be accepted). Please keep a copy of your events for your reference.

Stratford upon Avon Herald

The last couple of week’s have seen The Herald devote space to disciplines that don’t always get the recognition they deserve.

Last week it reported on the success of 3 of our GB Triathletes, Camilla Cresswell, Adam Linforth and Paul Faithfull, who competed in Spain in the European Multi Sports Championships and this week they report on Mark Barker’s demanding, challenging and gruelling 100k GB Beacons Way Ultra in South Wales.
